New Zealand tourism's official mark of quality Tourism Industry Award Winner

Napier and Hawkes Bay

Napier is the 'Art Deco' capital of New Zealand, and probably the world. Hawkes Bay is famous for its wines and many wild and remote beaches...

Napier is the centre of the Hawke's Bay region, known for its sunshine, vineyards, pip fruit and beautiful coastline. Napier itself was destroyed by earthquake and fire in 1931 and rebuilt in the Art Deco style, giving the town a unique character.  The Cape Kidnappers Gannet (large seabirds) Colony, one of the world's biggest, is a fascinating place and can be reached by 4 WD vehicle, 4 wheel bike, Unimog, tractor or by foot at low tide. The region is famous for its Chardonnay and Cabernat Sauvignon grapes and Hawke's Bay vineyards are all within a short distance of Napier and Hastings cities, with over 30 open to the public for free wine tasting.  The East Cape coastline is famous for its rugged beauty and magnificent surf and and the eerie Lake Waikaremoana in the Urewera forest park is a remote treasure with possibilities for kayaking and hiking.
